Course Structure
The NEW Monty Roberts Advanced Course of Horseman ship is a comprehensive program consisting of 10 modules. This page is for students who wish to enroll in INDIVIDUAL MODULE 4: ADVANCED PROBLEM SOLVIN G: Address behavioral challenges such as biting, bolting, rearing, and load ing fears. Identify root causes and apply safe, horse-centered strategies. Put all learned skills into practice while helping horses overcome fears or old patterns.
The single-module option is ideal for those who cannot commit to a full course block. It provides the same high-quality instructi on as the full course, so you can learn at your own pace.
The full pr ogram includes the following modules:
Module 1: Starting a Young Hors e on the Ground(7 Days · 700 Points)Lay the foundation for young horses thr ough groundwork. Take incremental steps to introduce the surcingle, saddle, and long-lines. Shape the horse’s mindset to be motivated and willing. Bui ld trust and clear communication before introducing a rider.
Module 2 : TOP – Train Off Pressure(2 Days · 200 Points)Understand the horse’s insti nct to lean against pressure. Refine timing, cues, and release to create cl arity and softness. Develop horses that respond without resistance, confusi on, or fear.
Module 3: Starting a Young Horse with the Rider(5 Days · 500 Points)Guide young horses through their first rider experiences, empha sizing safety, lightness, and preparation. Reinforce groundwork under saddl e and build a willing partnership through Full-Join-Up confidence-building sessions.
Module 4: Advanced Problem Solving (Monty’s Special Trainin g)(5 Days · 500 Points)Address behavioral challenges such as biting, boltin g, rearing, and loading fears. Identify root causes and apply safe, horse-c entered strategies. Put all learned skills into practice while helping hors es overcome fears or old patterns.
Module 5: Vet and Farrier Manageme nt(2 Days · 200 Points)Train horses to accept vet and farrier procedures ca lmly. Focus on desensitization, positioning, and preparation. Learn key asp ects of hoof care and treatments from Monty’s trusted experts.
Module 6: Train the Trainer(5 Days · 500 Points)Learn to assess training horses, detect pain, and identify root causes of behavior issues. Covers equipment, biomechanics, stable management, first aid, and more to fully meet the hor se’s needs.
Module 7: In-Person Foal Handling(5 Days · 500 Points)Dev elop gentle and respectful foal handling techniques. Teach haltering, leadi ng, grooming, and hoof care. Create positive early experiences that build c onfident adult horses.
Module 8: In-Person Gentling Untouched Horses( 5 Days · 500 Points)Work with untouched or feral horses to build trust from zero. Learn from Monty’s lifelong experience to deepen empathy, understand ing, and communication through Equus.
Module 9: Online Teaching & Coa ching(2 Days · 200 Points)Learn to structure lessons, give feedback, and co ach students using Monty’s techniques. Build communication skills to inspir e and guide both horses and humans.
Module 10: Online Marketing & Bus iness Development (Elective)(2 Days · 200 Points)Explore business growth th rough branding, outreach, and professional presentation. Learn to share Mon ty’s mission with clarity and authenticity.
For students pursuing ins tructor certification, the course block format—which combines several modul es into one block—is recommended, as it allows faster completion of all 10 modules.
To qualify as a Monty Roberts Certified Instructor, stude nts must complete the mandatory courses and accumulate sufficient points to progress.
